Last Thursday I ventured out of the apartment (I just can't seem to pry myself away from CSI these days, sad existence? Maybe.) and went to the Pig Bink and A Place to Bury Strangers show at First Avenue. First Avenue tickets were not as hot for this show, which was the Big Pink's second time in MPLS. Well, I guess I understand why. The show was only so-so. I honestly would not see them again. If they were opening for another band that I liked, I may consider it a plus, but I wouldn't outright seek these guys out again. The show was luke warm. That is the only way I have to describe it. I even thought that their third to last song was a Smashing Pumpkins cover, nope, not even close.
And lets not even get started on the opening band, A Place to Bury Strangers. Now, don't get me wrong, I have heard some of their jams on the Current and my beloved Sirius XMU station, I even thought a good part of the First Avenue tickets sold would be to fans of the A Place to Bury Strangers. I don't know if the band knows this or not, but they are not in Sonic Youth or the Jesus and Mary Chain. NO ONE gets away with that much feedback guys, NO ONE. The crowd on Thursday night was treated to 5+ minutes of feedback during EACH of their last two songs. I don't even feel old saying this, but that sucked. I covered my ears. I have been to hundreds of concerts and I have not done that once in my life, but Thursday nights A Place to Bury Strangers set called for it.
In other news, First Avenue tickets are sold out for Yeasayer ... a show that I am really looking forward to. But lets not forget First Avenue tickets are available for the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club show on Saturday - which is LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY. omg x a million! I can't wait. Stay tuned for several countdown posts this week. I haven't seen BRMC in over a year guys, I'm allowed to be a little excited.
