Foster The People First Avenue concert
Foster The People, an American indie rock/pop band, will be playing at the Minneapolis First Avenue on Sunday December 4 at 8pm. The show at First Avenue for the Foster The People concert is sold out! Even the secondary ticket brokers that usually have tickets for sold out events do not have any tickets! First Avenue concerts always sell out pretty quickly. The concerts at First Avenue are wildly popular, and the venue is small, which leads to an early sell out!
You can always check in with Ticket King to see if they can get you tickets. Inventory always changes, and there is always a chance Foster the People tickets will become available, so keep looking around if you're wanting to go to the First Avenue concert and don't already have Foster the People tickets!

Sia is Coming to First Avenue July 21st!
Sia is an australian pop singer and song writer. Although she brokethrough as an artist at age 33, she is extremely talented and has won many awards and received six nominations at the 2010 ARIA Music Awards. A close friend of Christina Aguilera, she has also collaborated with Beyonce.
Her fifth studio album, We Are Born, his her most successful album to date. "You've Changed" is her top single in Australia and the lead single of her album. The album received gold credentials because of its popularity.
Sia is a rising star and I highly recommend you check her out. I slap "You've Changed" in my Jeep at least once a week. It's a bonafide banger. Not a club banger, but a banger nonetheless. Buy tickets for Sia's performance from Ticket King today!
As you can see in the picture, she's kind of a character.

Gayngs Showcase tickets
The Gayngs showcase is just a few days away! I can't believe it's already on Sunday. Last time Gayngs hit up the main room they had not one, but two shows and both were very sold out. There are very few limited First Avenue tickets left for this one. Remember the last Gayngs show where Prince showed up? Yeah, it was awesome. But you can rest assured the purple one will not show up at this one - he is rocking Cali with his jams this month.
Who all will be at this "Gayngs Afiliated Showcase?"There are quite a few (awesome) local bands: Gaygs, Doomtree, Solid Gold, Megafun, Leisure Birds, Alpha Consumer, Plain Ole Nill, Jonathan Ackerman, Slapping Purses, HAR MAR SUPERSTAR, Marijuana Deathsquads, Spyder Baybir Raw Dog, Moonstone Continuum, Albert, and Radical Cemetary. Some First Avenue tickets will be available at the door, the doors by the way open at 6:30 for this one! And the 7th Street Entry AND the main room are booked for this event.
Har Mar Superstar will be playing the entry with the Marijuana Deathsquads Sunday night. No news on set times, but if you follow First Avenue on Twitter you should have not a problem finding the information. Twitter: a great invention for set times.
See you at the show!

Middle Brother Tickets ... Album Out Today!
Long time no see! Or blog, rather. I haven't forgotten about my lovely blog - I've just been trucking away in the office, but that doesn't mean there is any shortage of awesome music happenings in MPLS.
Well, 2 weeks from yesterday marks the countdown for the concert event of the season - the Middle Brother/Deer Tick/ Dawes show taking place at First Avenue. Do you have your First Avenue ticket yet? Because I do!
Today also marks the release of the supergroup's debut album. There is a lot of excitement behind it - there are a lot of great musicians that made this happen. I have read a few reviews of the record and the first few shows of the tour and I can't wait to see it live up to the hype. Middle Brother is the headliner for each show, but Dawes and Deer Tick will take turns playing first and second. Ahh!!! So much excitement as I type this. I am so glad to be seeing one of my favorite bands at my favorite venue. I've also decided that, in honor of Deer Ticket being such Nirvana fans, I am going to bring my '91 Sliver shirt out of hiding. A gift from my uncle which I cherish dearly. I used to only wear it twice a year, in April on the anniversary of Kurt's death and in Feb on his birthday. Since the shirt (now 20 years old) has been reduced to nothing but holes I stopped wearing it even twice a year. It is an artifact indeed.
Anywho - see you at the show!
I would like to add when you search for 'middle brother band' on Google Image search you end up with a lot of pictures of Taylor Hanson.

Adele tickets
First Avenue has just announced a super awesome concert: Adele in the main room on Thursday, May 26th. You may remember a few years ago Adele released her single "Chasing Pavement" and with a little help from VH1 it was a giant success. Around that same time she toured and made a stop here at the Fitzgerald - it ended up being a very hot ticket at the time.
First Avenue tickets for the all ages Adele show go on sale this Friday, February 11th. An opening act has not been announced yet. Not that it matters too much - Adele will have no problem selling this show out on her own. People LOVE Adele. And I will admit, she has an amazing voice.
Adele is currently touring in support of her new album, "21" which has already been praised to rave reviews and debuted at number one in several countries. Like I said, people LOVE Adele.
I just read Adele's Wikipedia and she sounds like a pretty classy lady. Now my curiosity is peaked and I kind of want to buy my own First Avenue tickets to the show and check it out.

Deftones tickets
Do you have your Deftones tickets yet? Well, you better run to them if you don't. Rumor on the street is that First Avenue tickets are sold out for this one. I secured my First Avenue tickets for the show last Friday. I DO NOT want to miss these guys at First Avenue again. If they were playing at Roy Wilkins or opening for someone at the Xcel then I would in no way, shape, or form care to make the effort to see these guys. But ... how can you say not to First Avenue. After all, one of the first concerts I went to was the Deftones. The Deftones were my first concert NOT at the Xcel or Target Center. I loved it. I went to see them at the now defunct Quest Club. There were 1200 people in that place that were in as much love as I was with them.
The Deftones are touring in support of their newest album, Diamond Eyes, which was released last May. The Deftones also continue in fundraising efforts for their ill fated bassist, Chi. I was really saddened to hear that he had been in a car accident ages ago and it didn't make the news or anything. Well over a year ago he was in a car accident that left him in a vegetative state. He will never be conscious again. Its an unbelievable tragedy for such a tight knit group of people.
See you at the show on April 28th!
It's difficult to believe it will be Twins season by that time?!

Middle Brother Tickets
Middle Brother may be the best indie super group of all time. What makes up Middle Brother. Well, only about the coolest guys/musicians of my favorite band to see live. What are the components of Deer Tick? Well let me tell you: John J. McCauley III of the band Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit.
So not only will there be a set by the headliners, Middle Brother, but there will also be opening sets by the Delta Spirit, Dawes, and Deer Tick. !!!!!!!!!! Minneapolis music fans LOVE Dawes as represented at their last show. But please, everyone do yourself a favor and see Deer Tick. All the hipster kids love the Delta Spirit, and while I will admit they are good, no one on that stage will be able to hold a candle to Deer Tick.
Absolutely. Cannot. Wait.
First Avenue tickets are on sale now for the Deer Tick show on Monday, March 14th in the main room. With so many awesome and well loved acts First Avenue tickets will sell fast. However, it is Deer Tick that will steal the show. John McCauley and Co. will have everyone's eyes on them. Do not show up late to miss these guys!

Bright Eyes Tickets
So I may sound like a huge nerd here, but I am absolutely ecstatic for the new Bright Eyes album. There is so much hype about it. I mean, Conor Oberst has released solo albums, toured and recorded with Monsters of Folk, but has not been under the "Bright Eyes" name in at least 5 years. The last time Bright Eyes was here was before George Bush was elected to a second term. How can I forget "When the President Talks to God" one of my all time favorite concert moments. It was totally unexpected that he play such a B-Side. You could have heard a pin drop in the State Theater that night - everyone was absolutely mesmerized and Conor received a standing ovation. Magic!
First Avenue tickets are on sale now for both Bright Eyes shows in April. Yeah, that's right - there is going to be two of them. I ran out and bought my First Avenue tickets for both of the shows because I will not be missing either one of them.
I can't wait!

Lauren Hill tickets
It's official - Lauryn Hill is totally sold out! First Avenue tickets are pretty difficult to come for this one. Electric Fetus Tweeted that they received a few First Avenue ticket extras in on Friday, however, those are long long gone.
As I stated before Lauren Hill hasn't been here since the Up In Smoke tour back in 2002 so this is kind of a big deal.
The Lauryn Hill tour got off to a rocky start. She showed up over two hours late to her first show. I know you are talented and think that the world revolves around you Lauren, but seriously. Not everyone is an R & B singer and have actual jobs they must get to the next day. After her Brooklyn, NY show audience had to wait four hours for her to show up all she could say, ""I sacrificed my 20s for you … ," she said. "I personally know I'm worth the wait."
Well, Lauryn Hill, isn't that nice. While I will admit this is a once in a decade kind of show, I will definitely be sitting this pompous show out.

Ice Cube tickets
He's back! Ice Cube is back for an unexpected show on Tuesday, March 15th. People that are my age remember Ice Cube for his work with NWA and a lucrative solo rap career in the early-mid nineties. However, most people younger than me think of Ice Cube as the actor which he is better known for these days.
Seriously, try to name an Ice Cube or NWA album? Yeah, a little difficult without Google. Now try to name a few of the movies that he has been in? Boyz in the Hood, Friday, Next Friday, Barbershop (and the sequel), and the Players Club - just to name a few. Ice Cube has also been an executive producer on all of the above mentioned movies and countless others. Needless to say, Ice Cube has really made a name for himself. It makes me wonder what Ice Cube is doing rapping again? I suppose he would say he never stopped. Afterall he is promoting his 2010 "I am the West" release.
First Avenue tickets go on sale this Saturday for the March 15th show. Sorry kiddies, this is an 18+ show. No opening act has been announced yet. Keep in mind that Thursday nights are Ritmo Caliente nights so this will not be a late show. You should be able to be in bed in time for school the next day!
Ice Cube and Chris Tucker steal a scene in "Friday"

Deftones tickets
Major concert announcement. The Deftones are coming back this April for a show in the main room. First Avenue tickets last year were extremely difficult to come by. The show was super super sold out. The Deftones have been around for many years (20 years or so) and have a very dedicated following.
One of first great concert moments was with the Deftones. I went to see them around 1999 at the Quest Club. For those of you who are too young to remember the Quest, well, it is now Epic Nightclub. I was absolutely mesmerized by the lead singer Chino Moreno. He could have told the whole crowd to follow him outside and jump off a bridge and everyone would have listened. It was the first time in my life I realized how much of an impact a live performance can have you on you.
Thursday, April 28th The Deftones will be in town for a soon to be very sold out show. If you are going to need First Avenue tickets for this one make sure you buy First Avenue tickets when they go on sale. Deftones tickets will go fast !
See you at the show!

One fo the Greatest Pop Stories Ever Told
While I was on a trip to the MOA last week with my brother we of course had to stop at Zumiez. Usually while we're there they are playing the new jams that the kiddos are listening to - especially Lil Wayne jams. I may sound old, but I usually tune it out. I love Jay-Z, but I don't get the rest of it. Well, I get it, I would just rather listen to the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Anywho, while sitting in the 'mom chair' as I call it while Ryan picked out new snowboarding gloves (a huge decision, mind you) a jam started on their soundsystem that I had not heard in about 5 years. Robyn's "Show Me Love." I must say, Swedish people know how to do pop music (Abba?) it was perfect.
By this time we were in the check out line getting the snowboard gloves, a coat, and a rasta grip pad and I could NOT resist the temptation to sing along. So I did. I embarrassed my brother and myself. But I didn't care because this song is awesome. Please, take a trip down memory lane with me:
First Avenue tickets are on sale now for Robyn's show in the main room on Sunday, February 13th. Don't just pass Robyn off as a one hit wonder - she has had a lifetime of success as a popstar in her native land of Sweden. It shows when she sold out the Fine Line a few months back. First Avenue tickets are sure to sell out for this one - First Ave has Tweeted quite a bit about how fast tickets have been selling.

New Years Eve Blues
Has everyone recovered from New Years? Because I sure as heck haven't. Holy business did it kick my ass this year!
As I sit here at work watching the Vikings begin their game against the Lions I am thinking of all the great shows I went to at First Avenue this year. There have been so many I am just going to highlight the ones that I can remember.
First and foremost, the Black Keys. I know I sound like a broken record here, but there is a reason First Avenue tickets were going for $250 a pop for these shows. We are the only city in the country where the Black Keys played twice in a row on this tour. Writing about this gives me goosebumps - that is how awesome they were. Two guys from Akron, Ohio, a guitar, and a drumset. That's all of the components of the Black Keys. The Black Keys are one of the best live bands on the planet - their talent is not comprehensible until you see it.
Around March, my second favorite live band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club took the stage for a crowd so sold out you could not move! They played all my jams "Sympathetic Noose" "White Palms" and all of their other amazing jams. BRMC is truly a band that gives 110% of themselves while on stage. This marked the 10th time I had seen these guys and they don't stop amazing me with their live shows. Ahh, Peter Hayes, my love.
Passion Pit was a very hot First Avenue ticket this spring. I was lucky enough to buy mine early. Man that was a fun show - everyone in the crowd was so hyped about seeing these guys it was awesome.
She & Him - very disappointed. Again, First Avenue tickets were very difficult to come by for this one thanks to Zoey. It was boring and Zoey complaining about the camera flashes was out of control and annoying. I understand, it's probably pretty bright with the flashes, but hey, you're a public figure: buy sunglasses. The She & Him project does not showcase how talented M. Ward is. Yes, Zoey D has a beautiful voice. But M Ward's is better and his guitar playing is out of this world. By far the more talented of the two.
Julian Casablancas - even more disappointing than She & Him. First Avenue was only about 1/2 - 3/4 full and b.o.r.i.n.g was the show. Julian looked about 3 steps below enthused to be there and could care less about it. It's disheartening because I love those guys so much!
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes with Dawes - this was an unexpected 'blown away' moment. I had not seen Dawes before or heard very much about them. But man did they blow me away. They are a young band that has years of talent ahead of them - I cannot wait to see what Dawes releases in the future. When they were here in November they headlined the mainroom and sold it out which was not surprising at all. Edward Sharpe had sold out this show in about 1 day and I will admit I was very curious as to how they were going to handle this show. Their show at the Varsity was good, but not great. They were a young band with A LOT to learn as to how to handle that many people on the stage. They must have learned a lot because Edward Sharpe brought the house down. Man, what a great show.
Back in March there was the Big Pink show - it was ok, but I don't think I would jump through hoops to see them again. A band that was on my list of people to see, but they just were not very exciting. Like Julian, they looked bored.
The end April brought Yeasayer and super buzzed about/awesome band Sleigh Bells to the main room. Again, that show was so sold out First Avenue tickets were not easy to find. Sleigh Bells shook the structure of the building with their jams and you barely had enough time to recover before Yeasayer mesmerized you with their set. Their absolutely perfect, flawless, beautiful set. I can't wait to see these guys again.
In the heat of the summer, July brought The Faint to First Avenue. 1200 sweaty concert goers danced their faces off to "Glass Dance" "Southern Bells in London Sing" and "Desperate Guys." This show was cool to me because the Faint only announced 4 shows last summer and it was pretty cool of them to choose MPLS as one of them. But what can I say - we are awesome.
Ok, one more then I will be done, even thought this could go on forever. But it would be tragic if I didn't mention the Dead Weather show. Harlem, one of my favorite finds of 2010 opened the show. I went with some of my best friends, had a drunk ol time and Jack White and the gang rocked First Avenue so much many concert goers ears are probably still ringing. It was by far one the loudest show I have ever seen at First Avenue.
If just two of these bands grace the main room stage at some point during 2011 it would make me a happy, happy lady.
